ZEISS Medical Technology and Envision Health Technologies have announced a strategic cooperation. The partnership will support the development of patient-accessible, software-driven visual function testing for glaucoma care. The companies said the initiative will focus on advancing virtual reality-based testing while continuing a science-first approach to glaucoma management.

The collaboration brings together ZEISS Medical Technology, which has a long history of innovation in perimetry, and Envision Health Technologies. The digital eye health company was founded by glaucoma surgeon Dr Lama A. Al-Aswad. The partnership is intended to strengthen the scientific and clinical credibility of virtual reality-based visual function testing by combining established clinical knowledge with software innovation.

The announcement arrives as demand continues to grow for wider access to glaucoma screening and visual function testing. Healthcare providers are also seeking more flexible workflow solutions. These developments have increased interest in portable and software-driven technologies that can support visual assessment in a wider range of care settings.

Under the collaboration, ZEISS and Envision Health Technologies will work together to advance clinically relevant technologies designed for modern glaucoma care. The companies stated that the partnership will combine software development expertise with clinical knowledge to support patient-accessible testing solutions whilst maintaining clinical standards.

Anuj Kalra, Head of Chronic Disease Management at ZEISS Medical Technology, stated that clinicians are looking for solutions that improve accessibility, flexibility and the patient experience. He said those improvements should not reduce confidence in clinical results.

He said the collaboration demonstrates ZEISS’s devotion to practical innovation guided by the needs of health professionals and intended to expand access to visual function testing.

The companies stated that the partnership is intended to support technologies for use across different healthcare environments. The attention remains on improving access to testing while preserving the clinical rigour associated with established glaucoma care practices.

Envision Health Technologies stated that future visual function testing should be more available and adaptable while remaining grounded in clinical evidence. The company said the collaboration combines advanced software development with ZEISS’s longstanding position in perimetry and visual field testing.

Dr Lama A. Al-Aswad founded Envision Health Technologies to improve outcomes for patients with vision-threatening diseases. The company develops data-driven technologies designed to support the way vision care is delivered, measured, and expanded.

A central element of the collaboration is the development of virtual-reality-based approaches for visual function testing. The companies stated that the partnership combines ZEISS’s experience in visual field assessment with Envision’s expertise in software-driven testing and virtual reality technologies.

The collaboration also reflects ZEISS’s long-term innovation strategy in visual field testing. The company has played an important role in the development of perimetry technologies and views the partnership as an opportunity to support the next stage of clinically grounded innovation in glaucoma diagnostics.

Envision Health Technologies contributes experience in digital eye health and virtual reality applications. By uniting these capabilities with ZEISS’s expertise in perimetry, the companies intend to advance VR perimetry and software-based visual function testing.

The organisations stated that the collaboration is centred on clinically relevant solutions for glaucoma care. The effort focuses on merging scientific principles, clinical expertise, and software innovation to advance diagnostic technologies.

The announcement noted that products, services and offers referenced by the companies may not be approved or available in every market.
